Lavender

Lavender

(nlv / lvlv)

Lavender is a dilution inspired by the Mushroom gene found in Shetland Ponies. It affects all base colors and interacts with the Cream gene.

Summary:

  • Lightens the coat to a cool, desaturated brownish-grey shade.
  • Interacts with Cream to produce similar effects on those dilutes (see examples).
  • Eyes may be blue, gold/yellow, or unaffected. Skin is dark if no other dilutes are present, may be dark or pink with nCr, and must be pink with CrCr.
  • Must be homozygous to show (lvlv) - horses who carry Lavender may have blue or gold eyes, but otherwise show no Lavender traits.
  • Mild darkening at the knees/hocks and face is possible and somewhat common. Lightening (often slightly cream-tinted) may be found along the underside, around the pasterns, and at the tips of the mane/tail.
