Sun and sea air
Sparkles skipped on lapping waves encouraged by the low summer sun. The silver flash of small fish seems just below the surface. The sky shifted between gorgeous hues of sapphire and azure. Gentle sloshing of water over the warm sand added to the tranquility, the occasional calls of seabirds mingling between the swells. Rarely the blowing breath of a hunting seal could be heard, but you'd be unlikely to spot one. The gentle lull of the sea could rock you to sleep, it's reassuring warmth and comforting sounds. Peaceful and tranquil.
From the distance a deep whinny swept over the beach. Up over the sand dunes trotted a striking stallion, splashed with smokey black and white. Where he was going, unclear. Perhaps a small herd of ponies was nearby. Regardless, he was very eager to arrive. The rhythmic pounding of his cream hooves stirred up the sand and his white feathers flowed beneath him. He held his painted face high, his nostrils flaring as he tasted the salt in the air. This dual coloured coat rippled under the shimmering sun, it's shine running it's fingers through his fur. His aquamarine eyes glistened in the sunlight, searching for something unseen, their hue changing like the sky above. He held his fluffy sunkissed-brown tail aloft, bouncing like a head of kelp on the waves of his even strides. His forelock laid over his broad nasal bones like willow strands over bark and his white mane a cascading waterfall over his muscular shoulder. Feeling damp sand underfoot he side stepped gracefully, collecting his white legs, before throwing his hocks up in a gentle buck. Flicking the wet sand through the air, he gave an excited snort, pink nose flaring. He continued playfully bucking as he veered back towards the water. His front hooves struck through the turquoise water. Spiralling bubbles running through his splayed feathers. He splashed his hind hooves in too, thoroughly soaking his undercarriage. He lowered his head, sticking his tongue out and touched it to the surface. His mane dancing on the edge of the water. He tasted the sharp tang of salt and pawed his hoof through the water, stirring and splashing. Bubbles rushing to the surface.
He hopped his way out of the gentle waves and back to shore, giving himself a full shake off. He now felt fresh.
A seagull pecked angrily at a tight shut mussel ahead of him, too focused on it's lack of a meal to notice the stallion racing down the beach. The sand gave little warning, concealing his pounding hoofbeats. Water flicking itself from his sodden feathers.
Rex, seeing the gull in his way decided, to chase it off. Pinning his dark ears flat to his neck, he darted towards the gull. In a frantic flurry of feathers the gull shot up to avoid him. Squawking harshly. It gave an annoyed swoop towards him, clacking it's beak. Rex slowed to a bouncy trot, flicking his head at the gull, showing off his muscles. Squealing back. Flicking his heels again he continued on down the beach.
