Take Me Home!

The morning sun slid it’s way up over the horizon, casting gentle rays on the tufts of grass still wet with their morning dew. Its warm rays flooded a seemingly empty pasture, that was until a bay head shot up from behind a leaf pile. Blinking hazily at the rude rays of light that woke her up.

Cheesecake stretched and grumbled, reaching out her hooves as her shoulder blades cracked – a beautiful sign of a good rest. After she was done doing her morning stretches, she heaved herself to her hooves. One would think when she stood, she would appear atleast a little bigger than she did laying down! Alas, the 12 hand mare shook out her dusty coat and began her measly stroll up the fence line.

She wondered, curiously, who would be arriving today to see her. Lately, all of these new faces have passed back and forth and one by one her herd mates left. Leaving poor little Cheesecake all alone.

At last she made her way to the top of the field, just in time to hear her owner yelling her name with a halter in one hand and feed in another. ‘Forget the halter! Give me that food!’ Her once leisurely stroll turned into a full out gallop with a loud nickering yell of excitement.

Breakfast was not something that she could ignore.

As soon as she got up to the man, her face buried in the bucket, getting rather annoyed each time her face was lifted out so the halter could be slid over her head.

Finally they managed and set the bucket down, leaving her to her own devices for a few minutes.

After her initial introduction to the food, the feeling she was being watched creeped over her topline. There was barely any food left as she lifted her head and locked eyes with a rather tall and tan brunette. His hair was kept short, a big contrast than the man she was used to – who sported long blonde hair and a grizzly beard. His posture and composure was also different, almost anxious.

The man she knew very well began to talk with the man that she really didnt know all that well, their language falling flat on her ears. She only could process a few of the words she knew, which was mostly just her name.

A lead rope appeared from the new man, reaching up to clip it to her loop. Cheesecake let him, not that she wasn’t suspicious of his every move though, she was not the type of horse to run blindly into fire nor was she the type of horse to immediately trust any person that came to the field. Let alone touched her.

Lazily she followed behind the two as they began to walk towards the arena, glancing back forlornly at her forgotten bucket. It still had something in it and now it was for the birds. A nasally sigh left her velvet lips, turning her attention back towards the large glassed building.

Cheesecake knew the drill, this had happened for days, each new person wanted something different though.. And she never fit.

For some reason today, she was eager to make an impression on this odd man. She wanted to go home to someone, where she wouldn’t be paraded around everyday. Thats what she could assume, each horse that had met someone, left with that someone. This must be him.

Once released, Cheesecake put on some flair. She tossed her head up and flared out her nostrils like a dragon, she imagined she was a large beast with eyes made of fire. Stomping on the dirt, she snorted in the males general direction before taking off in a fast paced trot.

She flaunted, she tossed her head, she made sure that their eyes stayed glued to her. She wasn’t going to be boring and slow like all those times before, she wanted to be flashy and to be seen.
