PART ONE: MOE

I raised my head, ears flicking back and forth. Behind me, the crunch of a squirrel’s footsteps, to my left, the twinkling water rushing through the creek, and above me, the cry of a hawk. It was peaceful here, in the wide green meadow. Fresh grass, clear air, and cold creek water. What more could a stallion need? Looking around at my herd mates, I still felt a pang of longing, deep in my chest. As much as I tried to ignore it, I still wanted what each and every one of us wanted: a person to call my own. By the creek, a small stallion grazed peacefully, his silvery mane dancing in the breeze.

“Mom,” I pointed, barely daring to breathe. “There.”

She saw the pony, and looked at me, eyes wide.

“He looks exactly like the pony you’ve been drawing!” She exclaimed. For the last few weeks, all I could think about was the Teddy Cob claiming day. It occupied my every waking moment, and quickly filled my dreams. The main focus of these dreams was a majestic silver buckskin stallion, with blue eyes and long feathering. He looked just like the pony before me. He was the pony from my dreams. Dream. That would be a good name. I could claim this pony, and I would name him Dream, and we would be best friends forever. I carefully pulled my bell ribbon out of my pocket, and began to approach Dream, when…
