Lonely Nights

Dark clouds began to loom overhead, a once bright and sunny day quickly transform into a layer of ill-lit trees. A soft breeze rushed into a fast gust, blowing the flowers and trees in its wake with no remorse. The lonely forests were quiet, the load roar of a brewing storm overshadowing any noise that tried to speak. Covered by the clouds, the sun lost its position in the sky, not even rhe moon was given a chance to show its face.

Silver hair cast a dim shimmer in the distance, a slight golden tint waved in the wind. Moe had been separated from the other ponies released into the hills. Barely able to keep his eyes open, he let out whinnies and neighs to find his herd mates. Nothing. Pushing further through the trees, Moe entered a small clearing. Sharp winds whipped against his face, moving his forelock in ways that made it hard to see two feet ahead. Soft jingles from the small bell braided into his tail were immediately silenced. His weight began to sink into the softening ground beneath him, soaked grass hastily turning into deep mud.

     Earlier.

Bird chirped and flew through the sky. Moe, freshly groomed, was wandering a small pasture with a few other ponies. Groups of people slowly began to enclose the fence. Mumbling conversations and quick glances, he could tell eyes were eagerly looking at him and the others. The fence opened and a gentle flood of people entered the paddock. Some had colored ribbons in hand, while others held treats. With bright ears perked, Moe slowly walked towards a girl who held both, because two is better than one.

"Well aren't you just the charmer, huh?" A soft voiced cooed. With carefulness, a gentle hand began to rub the side of his neck. "Now, if you let me braid this ribbon into your hair it better stay until I see you next," she smiled softly. Patting down the side of his body, Evelyn started to braid the blue ribbon into his tail, hopeful that that would be the best place for it to stay. Just a few final pats and the guests were urged to exit the paddock. With one last look, Evelyn waved with  a longing feeling that they would see each other again.

Moe took shelter under some tall trees, the wind seemed to be dying down. Shaking his body to readjust his mane, he snorted and glanced back at his tail. The golden bell had seemed to still be hanging on, but not by much.
