A year had passed. The mans son had grown in the meantime, the child was walking now, climbing too. Strangely though, the toddler could easily be stopped from wandering by being put in one of the baga meant for lambs or weak sheep on horseback. Either that or be carried by his parents all day long. But at some point, the child would begin to wiggle and strain towards the nearest horse and calm back down once placed near or on it. It was a curious thing.

And so the child's parents wanted to find a horse or preferably pony for their son. As such, the man had returned to Hungary and found a herd of ponies once more. Last year he’d tied a bell ribbon into the mane of one, but the mare had turned up without said ribbon. She'd gone back to the pastures and the man soon spotted her.

A jet black mare with silvery mane and a single, small snip on her muzzle- just as he remembered. She however didn't remember. And how could she, after all they'd only met briefly. The man had never seen her nor the ribbon he had placed in her mane again. Who knew where that ribbon has gone to.

He'd brought a new one. It was blue with a golden bell. Its warm chime rang softly when he showed it to the mare. She huffed and sniffed, but seemed more interested in the man's pockets than the bell. He had not brought any treats- had she learned this from other visitors? How many bells had she lost in her lifetime exactly?

He hoped the one he brought would remain this time. He had never been good at braiding until he met his wife. For her he'd learned and thought himself pretty good at it, but maybe this was the next level. He ran his hands through her long, wild and curly mane. There was so much of it and apparently little had gone to her tail. It was adorably short. He found a spot that seemed a good fit for the bell ribbon and carefully braided it in. It looked like fine work to him. The mare meanwhile seemed to like having her mane fussed with, so he continued to run his finger through. He detangled a little of it, but even that took very long. So long that he forgot the time and eventually realized with shock how late it was. It was time to go. He ruffled her forelock and said his goodbyes, wondering if that bell would stay this time.
